TV Stand or TV Wall Bracket?

While this website’s predominant focus is on reviews and information concerning LCD wall brackets, we understand that this isn’t an option that suits everyone. In fact, when you first purchase or upgrade your own LCD TV you will be faced with a choice as to whether to mount your television to the wall, or to go for the more traditional option of a TV stand. To help you make an informed decision we have compiled some unbiased information together regarding the pros and cons of both of these methods of displaying your appliance.

The TV Stand

Perhaps the major advantage of an LCD TV stand is in its simplicity. While some retailers will sell their television stands in flat-packed form requiring some assembly, it is often the case that they will simply be delivered whole, inserted into your room and are immediately ready for your television to be placed upon. You’ll need to make sure that you measure its location carefully and correctly but, with that done, TV stands really can fit into the majority of rooms.

In the case of a LCD wall bracket you will need to consider carefully what you will do with your wires. Having them hang down from the television set certainly isn’t aesthetically pleasing, and the prospect of drilling into your wall to disguise them may not appeal. None of that is a concern with LCD stands however as you can simply drop the wires behind the stand itself.

While stylistically there are many choices when it comes to TV stands, with wood and glass tops featuring high in the list of favourites, there is still the issue of room. For a large television you are likely to require a large stand. While this isn’t always a negative in that there will be room for any games consoles, television receiver boxes or DVD / Blu-ray players, it could still take a chunk out of your precious space.

The TV Wall Bracket

Space certainly isn’t a concern when it comes to LCD wall brackets. Ultra-thin LCD screens these days can be mounted, with a flat wall bracket, to a distance of an inch from the wall itself. That’s less protrusion into your room than a picture frame might be! While not all types of wall bracket will secure your television quite this close to the wall, they still offer an attractive solution to your TV display query.

With options such as a cantilever or tile and swivel LCD wall bracket, flexibility is also drastically increased. Changing your room around to fit more chairs in for Christmas? That’s fine; simply rotate your screen and everyone will be able to see clearly. It’s an easier process than lifting the TV stand and manoeuvring it to its new location, only to find that the view is still obscured and moving it back.

You may also find that your LCD or Plasma television set is actually safer located on the wall, as people may find it more difficult to knock into or spill drinks on. This safety can even be achieved for a very affordable price, whereas TV stands that look attractive and suit your décor may set you back a greater amount.

As you can see, both wall brackets and stands both come with an assorted list of advantages and disadvantages. In the process of making your decision, identify the things most important to you – space? Convenience? Cost? With your priorities organised you should be able to make a decision as to which will be the best option to suit your own situation.
